Qualifications for Team Members

Candidates for team members must be currently employed in any recognized business or profession on a full-time basis and be 25 to 40 years of age in order to have the maximum long0term impact on his/her career development. Failure to comply with Trustee age guidelines can lead to misunderstandings and cancellations between sending and host districts. To fulfill the vigorous and/or extensive demands of international travel and active participation in multi-week activities, candidates must also be:

  • Citizens of the country in which they reside.
  • In good health.
  • Neat in appearance and able to express themselves clearly and logically.
  • Of a sound, general educational background and well-qualified.
  • Open-minded, tolerant and flexible.
  • Proficient (preferably fluent) in the major language(s) of the host district.
  • Interested in and clearly enthusiastic about their chosen vocations, and possess outstanding vocational skills.

NOTE:      Qualified Rotaract  members should be encouraged to apply for team membership. Relatives of a deceased Rotarian may also be eligible for GSE team membership, if they meet the above qualification.

INELIGIBILITY RULES

The following are ineligible for any award or grant, including GSE team membership, from The Rotary Foundation:

  • A Rotarian or honorary Rotarian.
  • A member of a provisional Rotary club, an employee of a Rotary club, district, or other Rotary entity or of Rotary International.
  • Any Rotarian’s (or honorary Rotarian’s) or Rotary employee’s spouse, ancestor (parent or grandparent by blood), or lineal descendent (child or grandchild by blood or any legally adopted child) or a spouse of a lineal descendent.
  • The spouse of another team member.
  • A former Rotarian (or honorary Rotarian) or Rotarian’s spouse, ancestor (parent or grandparent by blood) or lineal descendent who resigned for the express purpose of becoming a team member.
  • A former Rotarian must have been resigned from Rotary at least three years at the time of application for him/her or any of the above-mentioned persons to be eligible for team membership.

IT IS A REQUIREMENT THAT ALL APPLICANTS READ AND HAVE A SOUND KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENTS OF THE TEAM MEMBERS HANDBOOK, AVAILABLE FROM THE ROTARY INTERNATIONAL WEBSITE at www.rotary.org.au or the District website at www.d9550gse.org.au

Applications for team members close on a date specified each year with each Group to hold interviews.  Each Group will select their best 2 candidates and 1 reserve, and these recommendations are to be submitted to the District GSE Committee.   The interview selection weekend will be held in Townsville prior to the end of May. Home stay accommodation will be provided for those traveling from out of Townsville.   All applicants are to be interviewed by Group Committee’s using a supplied questionnaire to ensure a District Standard is maintained to preserve the integrity of the selection process. The Group Chair is to recommend the top 2 applicants from their zone, plus 2 reserves.   Successful applicants will be required to fund their own travel to Townsville for the Final Selection, however consideration will be given to subsidising the costs of travel from those persons who are required to travel more than 500 klms.   A bond may required by the committee, for successful applicants, which will be returned to the applicant prior to departure of the team. Should the applicant withdraw from the team prior to its departure, the committee may consider whether the bond may be forfeited,
