Please outline your expectations from the vocational aspect of the GSE program while being hosted in District 9550:           
Vocationally, it is my hope that I will be afforded the opportunity to shadow an administrative professional in a group home setting for abused, abandoned, or neglected children; or what may be referred to as an orphanage.

 

On what specific areas relating to your job would you like to focus?     I would like to focus on the collaboration between administrative staff of the group home and social service professionals in providing care for the child(ren) (i.e., mental health, physical health, education, visitation with family members).

 

Please describe any aspects of your vocation you do not wish incorporated into your exchange.

There is not any aspect of my vocation that I would not like to incorporate in my exchange experience.

 

Can you foresee any possible areas of confusion with your vocation that may apply in Queensland, Australia?  If so- please clarify these:  The only confusion that I can foresee may be in terminology used for group housing of abused children.  Some societies call them orphanages, while others may use the term group home or emergency shelter.  It is my assumption that the area of focus would be on a group, home like setting, for child/adolescent victims of abuse.

 

Are there any other suggestions/comments you wish to make regarding vocational visits?  I have an educational background and occupational experience in mental health services for adolescents.  I would be interested in shadowing a mental health professional who works with children and adolescents, if an alternative is needed.
